I have been informed by programming at the Chicon/Worldcon that they don’t want me.
I have no problem if they didn’t find a place to put me, that they have lot more people. However, when I asked politely to be on the waitlist, when people cancel (COVID, etc), I got this:
"While there is a waitlist for panelists, we have made a firm decision not to include you on the program This decision is final, and we appreciate you respecting that." I asked about that "firmly", and got
Part of our process is to run the name of every participant we're considering for inclusion on the program by Program Staff and Convention Leadership. Multiple people flagged you as someone whose actions did not align with the values and principles set out in the convention code of conduct Really. I have to assume this is based solely on an interchange last fall, when I volunteered to help work the Chicon party at the DC Worldcon, and made a comment about "you young fen..." and was publicly, IMO, attacked - from an email from the Chair:
A quick note here - and I'm going to call you out publicly on this one, Mark. Your comment about "these young fen are wimps" is completely inappropriate. We do not insult people here, even if your intent was in jest That's an insult? In the context of "you young fen are all wimps, can't talk until 4 in the morning"? Maybe I'll throw a party, and do a reading that they won't allow on the program.
