I completly agree with the late Eric Flint, in that he strongly disagreed with the “Great Man” theory of history. We agreed that it’s more of “steam engine time”, where someone would fall into the rol.
The upcoming novel, Becoming Terran, has three major PoV characters, and a number of major secondary. NONE are The Hero. Rather, I’m working very hard at seeing how things might work out, and who will step into the roles.
I don’t see heroes as someone Famous. They’re certainly not movie stars, or sportsball stars. The real thing is someone who finds themselves at the right place, at the right time, and find the courage, even if it threatens their own life, to do what’s necessary.
I believe that there’s a lot of us, including you reading it, that you can do it when you need to. That is what will get us out of this cyberpunk dystopia we’re living in, and nothing else will.
